As we started spending more time at home during the pandemic many of us started to find some creative ways to reorganize and redecorate our homes without even leaving the house. Did you know you can give your home a free home makeover with the items you already have?
Here are 10 ways to accomplish this:
- Kitchen counter organization
Remember that pile of papers on the counter? It’s time to reduce the clutter. If you have a storage tray or even a serving tray tucked away, you can utilize it to contain all of those random items. Once those items start to overflow, you’ll know it’s time to visit the shredder and the trash can.
- Change up the lighting
If you have several options for lighting in your home, you can take a moment to rearrange table and floor lamps to create better mood lighting. Maybe your overhead lighting feels too harsh, you can create a cozier vibe by adding soft diffused light via a lamp to the spaces you spend the most time.
- Rearrange the shelves
You don’t need to buy new shelves to create a new look. Take a moment to remove everything from your shelves, dust them, and then step back. Take a look at the items you have and the space and try a new arrangement. Even a small change can transform an entire room, giving the look of a home makeover.
- Liven up the sofa
Could your sofa use a facelift? One easy way to transform the look of your sofa is to change out the throw blankets and pillows. Pull another set of pillows or throws from your linen closet in order to rotate out the colors and designs and watch the room vibe change.
- Headboard upgrade anyone?
If your bed has a headboard, you can spruce it up by adding a blanket or tapestry. If you don’t have a headboard, how about painting one on the wall? You can paint a design above your bed to create a new focal point for the room. Shapes such as circles, semi-circles, or rectangles behind the bed should do the trick.
- Accessorize your space
The simple act of moving decorative objects, vases, candlesticks, or art from one surface to another can dramatically change a space. If you’re looking at the same items all the time, they can look old and tired, but moving items you rarely see into high traffic areas will feel like a whole new room.
- Treasure hunt in your storage
Did you forget that you owned that awesome painting in the attic? It might be just what you need to liven up your living room. Or maybe that old book you have been saving with make a great coffee table book? Is that old chair you moved out of sight into the garage now ‘on trend’? Bring it inside and change up the look of one of the rooms.
- Move it, Move it, Move it
You got to move it, move it, move it…the furniture that is. Take a moment to change up the location of your living room furniture. Change the angles and positions and create new focal points. Use textiles, blankets and pillows to cozy up the space.
- Add some greenery
Your garden has been busy producing beautiful flowers for you. Take a moment and bring a few in to enjoy. You can also use greenery, branches or even leaves to bring a little bit of the outside in and add a natural element to your space.
- Window refresh
If you find yourself starting outside more than usual, it might be the best time to create a comfy spot to do it. How about creating a window seat? You can move a bench, or even a side chair near the window. Just make sure you’re letting the window bring the full sunshine in. Don’t block the light with furniture or curtains.
