Design trends perfect for Alaskan homes
As we enter a new year, and decade, many people have decided it’s time for a new fresh start! If you’re in the market to renovate or redecorate your home or are planning to spruce up a rental property you own in the Anchorage / Eagle River area, we gathered up a few quick ideas from what’s trending in home design and décor for inspiration. When it comes to design in the next decade, individuality will be extremely important.
This year’s trend works perfectly with our motto which is to stay true to your own sense of design and comfort. This is the best way to make sure your home looks great and feels even better. Just have fun making the place your own, and don’t stress too much about it. A lot of what was popular last year and in the early aughts, such as accent walls and all-white kitchens won’t go away entirely but will continue to evolve with time.
Décor trends in 2020
If there is one way to describe the interior design trends we will see more of in 2020, it’s anything goes. Instead of trying to be magazine perfect, people will be more focused on using their design to tell their own personal stories and highlight their personality and style. If you’re into crafting, DIY, or have an Etsy shop commissioning custom pieces, you will likely have lots of projects to take on this year!
As far as mainstream style, the Boho décor style will dominate in Alaska. This style is relaxed & breezy, allowing for the freedom to incorporate more color and personality. Just like our beautiful Alaskan state, Boho decor is the manifestation of the easygoing, laid back cultures that surround you.
Color trends
Every year there are new color trends and this year you’ll see a lot of color replacing neutrals. Tiles, Cabinetry and walls are all great ways to express your individuality through color. You will see soft peachy corals and terra cotta—colors that feel soft yet grounded in earth tones. A lot of warm colors, saturated hues and jewel tones, and sophisticated pinks will be popular. Bold trims and ceilings will allow for colorful contrasts and dramatic affect.
You will also see tabletop and textile designs with more patterns. This ‘off-trend’ trend will be without rules, so just go with your own style and flow and make each space your own.
Pantone announced that its 2020 Color of the Year is Classic Blue, a shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk. They said that this Classic Blue is a “dependable blue that can take you in many different directions, expressing tradition and elegance, as well as unexpected boldness.” You can easily incorporate this color into your design, if it fits your personal style!
Designing around sustainability
As people continue to transform their lives toward more sustainability and living eco-friendly, many will choose items and themes that are ethically created and sustainably harvested. As individuals create their own personal designs, they will do so with eco knowledge and sensibility. Lighting, wood, and even warm and earthly elements added to the space will express ecologically conscious tastes. In Alaska, we are always striving to be good stewards of our beautiful natural resources. You and your neighbors in Anchorage and Eagle River can help by tailoring your designs to protect our environment.
These are just a few of the trends we’ve seen that we know can translate into reality for our friends and clients here in the Anchorage and Eagle River area. As you plan, shop and get ready to refresh your home or rental property, just remember, staying true to your personal style and what makes you happy and comfortable is a trend that will always be in style.
